(Ephesians 2:8) “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.”
SERIES 9: RECEIVING FROM JESUS. 1. Receiving God’s grace (Learning to accept God’s undeserved kindness rather than trying to earn it.)
Following Jesus begins with learning to receive what we could never earn. God’s grace is His undeserved kindness, freely given through Jesus Christ. We do not earn His love by being good enough, working harder, or proving ourselves worthy. We receive His grace through faith. It is not a reward for what we have done, but a gift flowing from who He is.
Many of us find it easier to give than to receive. We want to help others, serve faithfully, and please God. Yet sometimes we treat our relationship with Him as though it depends on our performance. We feel good when we succeed and discouraged when we fail, forgetting that His love is not a reward for perfect behaviour.
Grace reminds us that our relationship with God begins not with what we do for Him, but with what He has done for us through Jesus. We come to Him with empty hands, trusting His mercy rather than our efforts. When we stumble, we can return to Him, confess our sins, receive forgiveness, and begin again. His grace is sufficient for us.
This does not mean our actions do not matter. We do not obey God to earn His grace; we obey because we have received it. As His grace works within us, He changes our hearts, strengthens us to live differently, and teaches us to extend love, patience, mercy, and kindness to others.
But before we can give generously, we must learn to receive gratefully. Before we can show others the love of Jesus, we must allow ourselves to be loved by Him – we cannot continually pour out what we refuse to receive.
This is the heart of Series 9. Through these thirty reflections, we will explore receiving His grace, trusting His promises, resting in His love, and allowing Him to transform our lives.
So, before rushing to give more or try harder, let us first come to Him. Let us receive His grace with grateful hearts and allow His love to fill us. The more deeply we receive His grace, the more freely it will flow through us to others.

Let’s pray, “Heavenly Father, I come to you with open hands and a open heart, work in and through me Lord. Let me see again the wonders of Your love for the lost, sick and hurting.” Amen!
