(Ephesians 2:8) “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.”
SERIES 9: RECEIVING FROM JESUS. Before we can give generously, we must learn to receive gratefully, because we cannot pour out what we have never allowed God to pour in.
Following Jesus means giving. We are called to love, encourage, forgive, serve and share with others the goodness of God. But before we can give, we must first learn to receive. Before we can pour out, we must allow God to fill us.
So often, we concentrate on what we should be doing for God. We want to become better Christians, serve more faithfully, love more generously and live in a way that pleases Him. These are good desires, but there is a danger that we begin to rely on our own strength, trying to earn what God freely offers.
Grace reminds us that our relationship with God does not begin with what we give Him, but with what He has already given us. His love is not a reward for our good behaviour. His forgiveness is not something we purchase through our efforts. His presence is not reserved for those who have achieved spiritual perfection. Through the Grace of our Lord Jesus, the Christ of God, we are invited us to receive His undeserved kindness, not because we have earned it, but because He IS gracious.
Jesus Himself said, “Remain in Me, as I also remain in you” (John 15:4). A branch cannot produce fruit by struggling harder or pretending to be strong. It bears fruit because it remains connected to the vine. In the same way, our ability to love, serve and give flows from our relationship with Christ.
Receiving God’s grace is not selfish or passive. It is the beginning of a transformed life. As we allow His love to reach our deepest needs, His forgiveness to free us from guilt and His strength to sustain us, we become better equipped to share these gifts with others.
Over the coming days, we will explore what it means to receive God’s grace and allow it to shape every part of our lives.

Let’s pray, “Heavenly Father, I read through this and think ‘how many times have ‘I’ tried to produce the fruit that can ‘only’ come through You…?’ Help me Lord to come to You so that I can receive… that others may see and know You and be Blessed!” Amen!
