(2 Corinthians 4:18) “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”

SERIES 8: BECOMING LIKE JESUS. 28. Living with eternity in view (Remembering that this life is not the end).

Following Jesus means learning to live – whatever the circumstances, because we have eternity in view. This life, with all its joys, sorrows and disappointments, is not the end of our story. God has promised us a future beyond this world, and that promise should shape how we live today.

It is easy to become absorbed in money, possessions, recognition and success. We measure our lives by what we achieve and what others think of us. Yet these things are temporary. They cannot satisfy our deepest longings, and we cannot take them with us when this life ends.

Living with eternity in view does not mean neglecting our responsibilities here either. It means living faithfully today while keeping our hearts fixed on what lasts forever. Every act of love, every kindness offered in Jesus’ name and every sacrifice made for truth and righteousness matters – even when nobody notices, God sees.

Jesus kept His eyes fixed on the Father’s purposes. He did not allow earthly approval, worldly attractions or suffering to turn Him aside from His mission. He knew that obedience to the Father was worth more than temporary comfort or recognition.

We are called to follow the same path. When life becomes difficult, eternity reminds us that suffering will not have the final word. When we are tempted to compromise our faith, it reminds us that our choices matter. When we lose someone we love, God’s promises give us hope beyond the grave. And when we grow weary, we remember that our labour in the Lord is never in vain.

We can’t control how long we live, but we can choose how faithfully we live the life God has given us here. Let’s not live merely for what we can gain in this world – let’s live for Christ, love generously and serve faithfully.

This life is not the end. For those who belong to Jesus, eternity means the hope of being with Him forever.
