(Ephesians 4:15) “Speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of Him who is the head, that is, Christ.”
SERIES 8: BECOMING LIKE JESUS. 26. Standing for truth. (Holding on to what is right when it would be easier to remain silent).
Following Jesus means learning to stand for truth – especially when doing so is uncomfortable or costly. We all know that remaining silent seems easier than risking criticism, disagreement or rejection. Yet becoming like Jesus means recognising when truth needs to be spoken and when injustice must not be ignored.
Jesus never compromised the truth to win approval. He constantly confronted hypocrisy, defended the vulnerable and spoke courageously – especially to those in power. Yet He never used truth simply to humiliate others. His words reflected both conviction and compassion.
Standing for truth does not mean arguing over every disagreement or believing we are always right. It means being honest, refusing to participate in deception, admitting our mistakes and speaking out when silence allows harm to continue. Sometimes it means defending someone who cannot defend themselves. At other times, it means accepting that we were wron – even when our pride makes it difficult.
NB – There is a HUGE difference between speaking the truth to prove ourselves right and speaking it because we love God and care about others.
We must hold firmly to what is right – without losing kindness towards those who disagree with us. We will not always be welcomed when we stand for truth. Some may misunderstand our motives or prefer that we remain silent. Our responsibility, however, is not to please everyone but to remain faithful to Jesus. We can speak with humility, listen carefully and then, like Jesus, trust God with the consequences.
Becoming like Jesus means choosing honesty over deception, courage over fear and love over indifference. We may not change every situation, but we can remain faithful to what is right.

Let’s pray, “Heavenly Father, is there a situation where I know what is right but have remained silent out of fear? Please show me how I can stand for truth with courage, humility and love.” Amen!!!
