(Ephesians 4:13) “Until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.”

SERIES 8: BECOMING LIKE JESUS. 1. Growing in spiritual maturity. (We were never meant to remain where we began).

Following Jesus means allowing Him to change us. When we first come to Christ, we are often like children learning to walk. We stumble, we fall, we get things wrong, and we sometimes need others to help us find our feet. But God never intended for us to remain spiritually immature.

Don't be fooled ... spiritual maturity isn't measured simply by how much Scripture we know, how long we have been Christians, or how often we attend church - it is seen in how increasingly our lives begin to resemble Jesus.

We become more patient - because He is patient. More forgiving - because He has forgiven us. More generous - because He gives freely. More willing to serve - because He came not to be served, but to serve. And when we fail, we learn to repent quickly rather than spend hours defend ourselves.

Growth takes time. God is not impatient with the process, but neither does He want us to become comfortable with remaining unchanged.

There will always be areas where we need to grow. Sometimes God reveals them gently; sometimes He uses difficult circumstances, difficult people, or painful experiences to expose what still needs His attention.

The question is not whether we have further to go. We all do.

The question is whether we are still moving!

Following Jesus means allowing Him to form His character in us, one day at a time. We may not yet be who we want to be, but by His grace, we do not have to remain who we once were.

Christ is being formed in us. And the journey has only just begun.

Let's pray, "Heavenly Father I write this and am constantly reminded of the Christian poem 'Footprints in the Sand.' Help me to see You holding me, Lord." Amen!
