(Galatians 5:16) “Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.”

SERIES 7: WALKING WITH JESUS - “How do I now live because I belong to Christ?” 2. Walking in the Spirit (Depending on God's power instead of your own strength).

Walking with Jesus means learning to stop relying on our own strength [which is just fear], and start depending on the Holy Spirit [which is trust]. We were never meant to live the Christian life by willpower alone.

Jesus did not save us and then leave us to figure out how to live. He gave us the Holy Spirit to live within us, guide us, strengthen us, correct us, and help us become more like Christ.

There will be times when we feel weak, tempted, discouraged, or simply unable to do what God is asking of us. Our natural response is often to try harder—to summon more discipline, more determination, or more strength.

But God offers us something better. His Holy Spirit.

Walking in the Spirit doesn't mean becoming super-spiritual or waiting for some mysterious feeling before we act. It means deliberately depending on God throughout ordinary life!

  • When we need wisdom, we ask Him.
  • When we are tempted, we turn to Him.
  • When we are struggling to forgive, we ask Him for help.
  • When we don't know what to do, we seek His guidance.
  • When our own strength runs out, we learn to say, “Lord, I can't do this on my own. I need You.”

That is not weakness. It is exactly where God wants us.

Paul discovered this when God told him, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)

The Christian life is not about becoming strong enough that we no longer need God. It is about discovering that His strength is sufficient precisely because our own isn't.

The more we walk with Jesus, the more we learn that dependence is not defeat. It is faith in action.

“Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,” says the Lord Almighty. (Zechariah 4:6)

Walking in the Spirit means this: I don't have to live the Christian life in my own strength. I can depend on the Holy Spirit to give me the strength I need for each step.
