SERIES 7: WALKING WITH JESUS - “How do I now live because I belong to Christ?” 21. Standing for Truth (Grace and truth must always walk together).
Following Jesus means we do not have to choose between grace and truth. Jesus showed us how to live with both. Standing for truth does not mean looking for arguments or trying to prove to others that we are right; it means being willing to remain faithful to Christ, even when it would be easier to stay silent, follow the majority, or simply go with the flow...
Truth without grace becomes hard, cold and judgemental. Grace without truth, on the other hand, can become a way of avoiding difficult things or calling something good when God clearly asks us to recognise that it is harmful.
Jesus was full of grace and truth. He spoke the truth even when it was uncomfortable, but He did so with love. He never changed the truth to please people, and He never used the truth to hurt them, and as His followers, we are called to do the same.
Sometimes truth requires courage. It may mean saying “no” when everyone else is saying “yes”. It may mean admitting when we are wrong. It may mean standing up for someone who is being treated unfairly. And that all means living differently because we belong to Jesus.
But let us always remember this: truth and grace must walk together.
We can stand firmly in the truth without stopping loving people. We can disagree without becoming hostile. We can speak with conviction without losing our kindness.
The world needs people who will speak the truth, but who will speak it with the heart of Christ.

Let us pray, "Heavenly Father, we've all heard Your Truth delivered with a sledgehammer (and God forgive me for the times I have done so too)... Help me to 'listen' to Your Holy Spirit before I rant on, so I can be more like Jesus." Amen!
