(Ephesians 2:10) “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

Part 6: WHAT’S IN IT FOR US? - 22. Better decision‑making (prayer and Scripture give everyday guidance.

The older you get, the more you realise that life is full of crossroads - courses, friends, jobs, relationships. Decisions shape rhythms and identity. When you make choices with Jesus and the Holy Spirit at the centre, you move from anxious guessing to faithful listening. Scripture isn’t a rulebook to control you; it’s God’s voice that clarifies values, exposes blind spots, and points you to what really matters. Prayer tunes your heart so you can hear that voice. Better decisions protect your soul, free you to serve others, and help your gifts grow.

How to live it (practical steps)

  1. Stop and pray before deciding: Ask Jesus for clear direction and invite the Holy Spirit to quiet your heart so you can hear
  2. Read a relevant passage: Let Scripture test your motives and options - God’s Word shows what honours him and loves others. (Example: seek wisdom in James 1:5; weigh stewardship in Luke 14:28–30.)
  3. Name your aim. Say out loud: “I want this choice to glorify Jesus, love people, and grow what God gave me.” That will clarify.
  4. Gather gospel‑centred counsel: Bring your decision to 2–3 trusted Christians who point you to Christ, not fear or profit.
  5. Run small experiments: Where possible, test things in low‑risk ways before committing fully - a trial term, or serving in a role for a month.
  6. Check your heart regularly. Ask: Am I choosing out of fear, approval, or dependence on Jesus? Let the Holy Spirit correct motives.
  7. Decide—and commit: Once you’ve prayed, read, wise‑sourced, and tested, choose confidently and steward the outcome to God’s glory.

Guardrails

  • Don’t confuse convenience with God’s will. Fast decisions need spiritual checks.
  • Beware idol logic: success, people‑pleasing, or comfort shouldn’t be the default drivers.
  • If you’re stuck long-term, ask a pastor or mentor to help you discern with Scripture and prayer.

Try this week: Pick one upcoming choice (big or small). Spend 10 minutes praying, read a short Bible passage about wisdom, bring it to one Christian friend / mentor for counsel, then write down one small next step and do it. Thank Jesus for guiding you.
