(2 Corinthians 5:17) "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!"
Part 6: WHAT’S IN IT FOR US? - 19. Clear identity (you stop performing for approval and start living from who God says you are).
Your worth isn’t a scoreboard! You were made by God, known by Jesus, and sealed by the Holy Spirit - not earned by likes, grades, or applause.
Clear identity means you stop performing for approval and begin living from the identity God speaks over you: beloved child, forgiven, useful for good work. That truth changes how you choose, speak, and rest. Why this matters for you:
- Freedom from performance: When your value comes from God, you stop contorting yourself to meet everyone’s expectations.
- Stability in storms: Approval fluctuates; God’s voice does not. Rooting your identity in Him keeps you steady when friends, situations, or attention shift.
- Authentic relationships: You can show up just as you are - honest, messy, growing - and love and be loved by others without needing them to fix your self‑worth.
- Courage to step out: Living from God’s calling lets you try, fail, and try again without your sense of self collapsing.
How to live it (practical steps)
- Start with a short rhythm of truth. Each morning, say to Jesus: “I am yours. Speak who I am today.” Invite the Holy Spirit to remind you through Scripture, prayer, or a friend.
- Name three truths. Write down three phrases God says about you (e.g., “beloved,” “forgiven,” “called”) and stick them where you’ll see them. Repeat them when insecurity rises.
- Measure decisions by identity, not image. Before you post, agree, or perform, ask: “Does this reflect who God says I am?” Let the Spirit guide your yes/no.
- Practice small honest shares. Tell one trusted friend or mentor something true about your struggle - no show, no fixing - just truth. Watch how authenticity deepens connection.
- Celebrate small wins God gives. Give God thanks when you act from identity (not from praise). Gratitude trains the heart.
Guardrails
- Don’t confuse humility with hiding your identity; humility freely receives God’s affirmation, then lives it.
- If shame or performance loops persist, bring them to Jesus and a trusted Christian mentor; ask the Holy Spirit for healing and wisdom.
Try this week: Choose one situation where you usually perform (social post, work, group role). Pause, pray (James‑style) for wisdom, speak one of your three truths aloud, then act from that truth. Note how it felt and thank God.
