Part 5: THE MAGNIFICENCE OF GOD AND HIS DEITY - 1. God’s Majesty (Scriptural visions of glory).
Like the Apostle John (above), there are moments in Scripture where language just isn’t enough, and worship takes over. Visions so vast they sweep the breath from the chest, and the words that try to remain are flooded away by silence. Those scenes: Isaiah in the temple, Ezekiel by the river, John on Patmos, are not antique curiosities. They call us back to the posture that the world so easily diminishes: Awe.
God’s majesty is not a doctrine to be dissected but a presence to be met. It’s the sense that the room has shifted because the King has entered. Transcendence means God is other: immeasurably greater than our categories, our comforts, our explanations. Yet that greatness is not distant indifference. He is both high and near - Sovereign over the cosmos, yet intimately attentive to a single whispered prayer.
The tension is Holy: we bow because He is beyond us, and yet we lean in because He stoops to us.
Why does this matter now? Because when our God is reduced to a friendly idea or a problem-solver for our plans, worship becomes small, and our souls grow smaller with it. Majesty reorients us. It re-teaches reverence, dissolves cheap confidence, and restores trembling gratitude.
In the face of His glory, we stop lecturing God on how things should be and start listening and looking for how He is still at work.
Practically: make room for astonishment. Read those vision passages again slowly. Let the language wash you: Seraphim calling holiness, Thrones and rivers of living water, The Lamb who is worthy. Bring silence into your rhythm of prayer. Allow songs of worship that hold mystery and grandeur, not just the comfortable refrains. Go back and allow your heart to be surprised by God again.
When Majesty returns to the centre of our devotion, everything shifts: our fears shrink, our praises deepen, and our service becomes worship. We begin not from what God can do for us, but from who He is—and from that place, everything else finds its right order.
