(John 16:33 23:4) [Jesus speaking] "... In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

Part 3: WE MAY LET GO... BUT GOD NEVER WILL — 13. Suffering and Trials (brokenness, discouragement)

The question that we hear the most is: If GOD is so loving, why does He permit suffering and evil in the world? It’s a deep question many of us struggle with. Part of the Christian answer is the belief in free will: people can make real choices — including ones that cause harm. Nonetheless, while painful, this freedom is seen as essential for genuine love and relationships.

We also believe the world is affected by sin, a brokenness that entered through human disobedience and contributes to much suffering and injustice. Yet Christians find hope in the truth that God is intimately present in our pain. The life of Jesus — who experienced suffering and sorrow — confirms God’s solidarity with the suffering.

Scripture confirms that God promises to be near the brokenhearted and to comfort us by the Holy Spirit. In my own life, I can testify that suffering has led to my growth and deeper compassion.

So while some aspects remain mysterious, faith calls believers to trust in God’s goodness and wisdom even amid trials, because as it states in Romans 8:28, "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose."

Let us pray, "Heavenly Father, remind us that You are always by our side, offering comfort through the Holy Spirit. We are truly grateful for the hope we find in You, especially in times of pain or loss. May our suffering lead us to grow in empathy and compassion for others. Help us to trust in Your Goodness and Wisdom as You continually set people free from evil who come to You in hope." Amen!
