(2 Corinthians 1:3–4) “Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforts us in all our tribulation…”

SERIES 9: RECEIVING FROM JESUS. 6. Receiving God’s Comfort (Allowing God to meet us in grief, loneliness and disappointment.)

Following Jesus means learning to receive His comfort, especially when life hurts and we do not have the words to explain what we feel.

Grief, disappointment, loneliness, and loss are part of our human experience. Sometimes the pain is so deep that even those who love us cannot fully understand it – yet God understands, and He invites us to come to Him just as we are.

In 2 Corinthians 1:3–4, Paul describes God as the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort. Notice that God does not promise a life without sorrow. Instead, He promises to meet us in our troubles. His comfort may not remove our pain immediately, but His presence reminds us that we do not have to carry it alone.

Too often, we feel we must be strong, hide our tears, or move on before our hearts are ready. But God is not disappointed by our grief. Jesus Himself wept at the tomb of Lazarus. Our tears do not show a lack of faith; they reveal that we are human and that love matters deeply to us.

Receiving God’s comfort begins when we allow ourselves to be honest with Him. We can bring Him our questions, our sadness, our memories, and even our silence. We do not need to pretend that everything is fine. We simply need to make room for Him to draw near.

Perhaps today you are grieving someone you have lost, struggling with a painful memory, or facing a sorrow that others cannot see. Remember this: you are not forgotten. God’s compassion has not diminished, and His arms are not closed to you. Let Him meet you where you are. You do not have to rush your healing or understand every part of your journey. Receive His comfort one day, one prayer, and one moment at a time.

Let’s pray, “Heavenly Father, the more I study these, the more I realise just how far I’ve wandered away from YOU… help me to stay close and receive all that I need …” Amen!
