SERIES 8: BECOMING LIKE JESUS. 14. Trusting God when life hurts (Holding on to faith when we don’t understand).
Following Jesus does not mean that life will always make sense. Faith is easy to talk about when everything is going well. The real test comes when life hurts.There will be times when we pray and the answer doesn’t seem to come. When something we hoped for is taken away. When we face illness, disappointment, loss or circumstances we simply cannot understand.
In those moments, God does not ask us to pretend that everything is fine. The Bible is full of people who cried, questioned and struggled. David poured out his anguish in the Psalms. Job asked difficult questions. Even Jesus, in the garden of Gethsemane, prayed through deep distress.
Trusting God does not mean understanding everything He is doing. It means believing that He is still God – and that He Loves us – even (especially) when we cannot see what He is doing.
It’s in times like this that we want God to explain the pain. Instead, He comes even closer and gives us His Presence. That can be difficult for us to accept. We want answers, reasons and a clear explanation. But faith learns to say, “I do not understand this, but because I love You, I will still trust You.”
God sees what we cannot see. He knows the beginning, the middle and the end of our story. What feels like an ending to us may be part of something we cannot yet understand, we simply need to keep walking with Jesus.
Bring Him your questions, your tears and your fears. He is not frightened by our pain.
And remember: God may not always remove the pain, but He will NEVER abandon us in it.
