(2 Peter 3:9) “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”
SERIES 9: RECEIVING FROM JESUS. 15. Receiving God’s Patience (Learning to accept that God is patient with us while we grow.)Following Jesus means learning that rather than becoming discouraged by our weaknesses, failures and slow progress we should be asking (and willing to receive) God’s patience. We often expect ourselves to change quickly, and then, when we fall into old habits, struggle with temptation or fail to respond as we know we should, we become frustrated with ourselves, and imagine that God must be equally frustrated with us!
(But) God understands that spiritual growth is a journey. He sees where we are today, knows what we are struggling with and understands what still needs to change. Like any good parent, He does not abandon us because we have not yet reached maturity. Instead, He continues to call us closer to Himself, teaching us to trust Him and become more like Jesus.
But receiving God’s patience does not mean making excuses for our behaviour or refusing to change. Instead, it means recognising that God’s grace is given in order for us to grow. We can admit our mistakes honestly, receive His forgiveness and take the next step without being trapped by shame or fear.
God’s patience also teaches us to be patient with ourselves and with others. As we experience His kindness, we learn not to demand instant perfection from the people around us. The love He pours into us helps us become more willing to encourage, forgive and give others the time they need to grow.

Let’s pray, “Heavenly Father, thank You for never giving up on me … thank You for the Holy Spirit that never gives up on me. Thank You Jesus for never giving up on me.” Amen!
