(Proverbs 3:5–6) “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
SERIES 9: RECEIVING FROM JESUS. 9. Receiving God’s Guidance (Learning to trust God when we do not know which way to go.)
Following Jesus means learning to trust His guidance, especially when we cannot see what lies ahead. There are times when we face difficult decisions, uncertain circumstances, or unfamiliar paths, and we simply don’t know what to do. We may weigh up our options, seek advice, and try to work everything out, yet still feel unsure about which direction to take.
God doesn’t ask us to understand everything before we trust Him. He invites us to acknowledge Him in all our ways and then depend on His wisdom rather than our own limited understanding.
Receiving His guidance begins when, instead of rushing ahead blindly, we are willing to pause, pray, and place our plans before Him. Instead of insisting that He bless the path we have already chosen, we learn to ask Him to show us the path we should take.
Sometimes God guides us through Scripture, bringing a verse to mind that speaks directly to our situation. At other times, He uses wise and godly counsel, circumstances, or a growing sense of conviction as we pray.
In all those times, we must remain patient and discerning, testing what we believe we are hearing against His Word rather than allowing fear, impulse, or personal desire to force us forward.
God’s guidance does not always come as quickly or as clearly as we would like. Often, He only shows us the next step – asking us to trust Him with the steps that follow. Waiting can be uncomfortable, especially when we want immediate answers, but uncertainty does not mean that God has abandoned us. We can continue walking faithfully while asking Him for wisdom.
Receiving God’s guidance is not about controlling the future; it is about trusting the One who holds it. We do not need to know every turn in the road when we know whom we are following. As we surrender our decisions to Jesus, we learn to listen, obey, and move forward in faith, confident that He will direct our paths.

Let’s pray, “Heavenly Father, how many times have I plunged myself ahead (without You), and how many times have You had to rescue me from my impatient recklessness …? Sorry Lord.” Amen!
