(Mark 12:28) “Teacher, which commandment is the greatest of all?”
Part 3: WE MAY LET GO... BUT GOD NEVER WILL — 11. Repentance and humility (turning from pride)
Jesus answered him, “The most important of all the commandments is this: ‘The Lord Yahweh, our God, is one!’ You are to love the Lord Yahweh, your God, with every passion of your heart, with all the energy of your being, with every thought that is within you, and with all your strength. This is the great and supreme commandment.
And the second is this: ‘You must love your neighbour in the same way you love yourself.’ You will never find a greater commandment than these.”
We tend to measure ourselves by not killing, not stealing, not committing adultery. But here, plainly stated, is the true benchmark: to love our Heavenly Father with every passion of our heart, with all the energy of our being, with every thought and with all our strength.
The point is simple and sobering: we know ourselves well enough to see that, without the Holy Spirit’s help, we cannot fully keep ANY of God’s commands—least of all this one.
So, in humility, let us bow our heads and pray...
