(James 1:5) “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”

SERIES 9: RECEIVING FROM JESUS. 8. Receiving God’s Wisdom (Asking God for wisdom and being willing to follow what He shows us.)

Following Jesus means learning (humbling ourselves) to receive God’s wisdom – rather than relying solely on our own understanding.

We all face decisions, difficulties and situations where we do not know what to do. Sometimes we want an immediate answer; at other times, we are so convinced that we already know best that we never even stop to ask God.

Yet Scripture invites us to ask. God does not despise us for lacking wisdom, nor does He rebuke us for admitting that we need His help. He welcomes us to come to Him with humble and trusting hearts.

But receiving wisdom involves more than asking God to show us the right path. It also means being willing to walk that path when He reveals it. Sometimes His wisdom confirms what we hoped to hear. At other times, it challenges our plans, exposes our pride or asks us to forgive when we would rather hold on to resentment. God’s wisdom may lead us to wait when we want to rush ahead, or to act when fear makes us hesitate.

We must learn to distinguish between what we want and what God knows is best! His wisdom is revealed through His Word, shaped by His character and reflected in the life and teaching of Jesus. As we pray, study Scripture and grow in our relationship with Him, we learn to recognise the difference between our own impulses and the path of godly wisdom.

We will not always understand God’s reasons immediately. Faith means trusting Him even when the next step is difficult or the outcome remains uncertain.

Today, ask God for wisdom in the decisions you face. Then be willing to obey what He shows you. Receiving His wisdom is not simply about knowing what is right; it is about allowing Him to shape how we live.

Let’s pray, “Heavenly Father, please forgive me for going my ‘own’ way … calm my heart Lord so that I can hear Your Voice and to know the way out of the situation I am in.” Amen!
