(James 4:8) “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.”

Part 4: RECURRING TACTICS THE TEMPTER USES — 1. Distraction and Busyness (brokenness, discouragement)

How does this work? The enemy will seek to keep us occupied with trivialities so that we don’t have time to either pray or reflect. They will try to fill our days with small, urgent (or even entertaining) tasks, leaving no room for real communion with God.

How it manifests: endless errands, constant scrolling, superficial socialising, or always “doing” something so we never stop to listen.

Why it’s dangerous: those little interruptions add up; they turn potential moments of meeting (and growing) with God into just noise, and over time, our prayer life and spiritual sensitivity weaken.

What it produces: spiritual drift, shallow faith, irritability, and a dullness to conviction.

Scripture: (Psalm 119:37) "Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; and give me life in your ways.” (Luke 10:38) Martha’s distracted busyness contrasted with Mary’s choosing “the better part.” (Priority of presence with Christ.)

Simple fixes: Start with quiet rhythms (daily pauses, 10-minute walks where you chat with God), limit media and commitments, phone on silent, and choose a few practices that create space for communion.

Let us pray, "Heavenly Father, I confess that I have been irritable. I don't want to drift away from You, and I certainly don't want a hollow faith. Holy Spirit, please help me to prioritise the presence of Jesus in my life so that I manifest Your Glory to others." Amen!
