(Psalm 33:11 — “The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations.”

This series explores how God speaks to us. Part 23: BIBLE PROPHECY

TESTIMONY: This is how God spoke to me so as to Call me to Repentance and Warn me of Consequences … My business was dying a slow and painful death after my cancer scare in 2010. I was desperate for work, money was horribly tight, and the constant stress left me extremely irritable, moody, downright sulky and tremendously grumpy (to say the least).
In the middle of all that, my wife told me that she had been booked on a training course with her work for a couple of days in a posh hotel. Apparently, it was 'all free', so she suggested that I accompany her for nothing more than a change of scenery.
I don’t really know why I agreed to go; I was a lousy companion all the long journey there... The next morning, my wife headed off to one of her meetings, and I was just about to head out to town for a coffee when I really felt compelled (convicted) to stay in the room and open the Bible.
The next morning, she left for a meeting, and I was about to head into town for coffee when something pressed on my heart to stay in the room and open my Bible. I resisted—ashamed, fearful, and a little bitter. I hadn’t spent time with God in ages, and it felt easier to blame Him for everything that was going wrong.
Reluctantly, I flipped the Bible open, and it landed in Job 36. Verse 7 jumped out at me, and I started reading. The words were like a lamp in the dark— …
Job 36:7 He withdraws not His eyes from the righteous (the upright in right standing with God); but He sets them forever with kings upon the throne, and they are exalted. And if they are bound in fetters [of adversity] and held by cords of affliction, Then He shows to them [the true character of] their deeds and their transgressions, that they have acted arrogantly [with presumption and self-sufficiency]. He also opens their ears to instruction and discipline, and commands that they return from iniquity. If they obey and serve Him, they shall spend their days in prosperity and their years in pleasantness and joy.
I felt exposed and seen. Then He led me on to read verse 16, and my defences broke. … Job 36:16-21
"Oh, Job, don't you see how God's wooing you from the jaws of danger? How he's drawing you into wide-open places, inviting you to feast at a table laden with blessings? And here you are laden with the guilt of the wicked, OBSESSED WITH PUTTING THE BLAME ON GOD! Take heed, turn not to iniquity, for this [the iniquity of complaining against God] you have chosen rather than [submission in] affliction.
By now, I was sobbing profusely … His Voice then spoke to me very clearly through my brokenness: Remember who you are - you are My son! ❤️

Hearing His voice is only the beginning — it’s not enough to listen; we must obey. Sometimes that looks like stepping away when anger flares, and He says: “Don’t get angry — walk away now.” Sometimes it means protecting your future: “Don’t waste your finances on that — you’ll only regret it later.” Other times it’s a warning to leave a place that will slowly tear you apart: “This place isn’t good for you — it will destroy you.” Or it’s an invitation to a whole new way of living: “Come, follow Me, and I will show you LIFE and how to truly live.” Listening opens the door — doing is what brings the promise to life.

Let’s pray, “Heavenly Father, Your counsel stands forever and Your plans endure through every generation. Help me trust Your unchanging purposes, rest in Your faithful wisdom, and walk today in the hope of Your sovereign plan." Amen!
