In this series, we're delving deeper into the teachings that Jesus left us to follow. The ninth commandment leads us to our next focus: PRAYER AND FASTING ...
Here are some common reasons people cite for not praying:
- "I'm too busy" / Lack of Time: Some people feel overwhelmed by busy schedules and the "tyranny of the urgent," leading them to view prayer as a low priority or a time-consuming activity they can't fit in.
- Doubt about its effectiveness: Some question if prayer makes any difference, believing that GOD already knows what they need and therefore He should just get on with it.
- Feelings of unworthiness or shame: Some may feel they are "too big a sinner" or that GOD is disappointed in them, leading them to hide away from prayer and his presence.
- Disappointment with unanswered prayers: When prayers seem to go unanswered, or GOD's timing doesn't align with our expectations, some become discouraged and give up on the whole practice.
- Pride or self-reliance: A belief that one can handle challenges on one's own strength, resources, and abilities can lead to a sense of not needing GOD.
- Spiritual dryness or lack of feeling: Some rely on "feelings" to drive their actions, and when they don't feel like it or GOD seems distant, they neglect prayer, viewing praying without feeling as hypocritical.
- Distraction and worldliness: The constant pull of entertainment and the "immediate gratification culture" can make prayer feel unappealing or dull by comparison.
Whatever the excuse - avoiding prayer is like having VIP access to the ultimate Mentor and deciding to ask your toaster for guidance instead.

Let's pray, "Heavenly Father, help me to see the importance of prayer in my life. Open my heart to the peace and strength it brings. Please guide me to make time for this sacred connection with You, especially amidst the busyness of my days. Help me to understand that two-way communication with You is my daily guidance and comfort, drawing me closer to You. Teach me to cherish these moments and to grow spiritually through them." Amen!
