(Romans 15:13) “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

SERIES 7: WALKING WITH JESUS - “How do I now live because I belong to Christ?” 23. Fighting Discouragement (Hope keeps moving even when feelings don't).

Following Jesus does not mean we will never become discouraged. There will be days when we feel tired, disappointed or simply wonder whether we are making any difference at all. What matters is what we do when those feelings come.

Discouragement can make us focus on what is going wrong rather than on what God is doing. We can look at our circumstances and begin to believe that nothing will change. But our feelings do not determine God’s faithfulness.

The Bible reminds us that our hope is not based on how strong we feel today. Our hope is found in God.

Sometimes we simply have to keep going. Keep praying. Keep trusting. Keep doing what God has asked us to do, even when we cannot yet see the results.

Jesus never promised that following Him would always be easy. But He did promise that He would never leave us. We do not walk by sight alone; we walk by faith.

There may be times when you feel as though you are taking one small step forward and two steps back. Don't give up. God sees every step, every prayer and every moment when you choose to trust Him despite how you feel.

And remember, discouragement is not failure. Being tired is not failure. Having a difficult day does not mean that your faith has disappeared.

Sometimes faith simply looks like getting up tomorrow and taking the next step with Jesus.
