(2 Corinthians 3:18) "And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit."
Part 6: WHAT’S IN IT FOR US? - 1. Grace has reshaped us (we give because we are no longer who we were, and in that reshaping we discover freedom, purpose, peace, and a life that points others to God.
The next series seeks to define this statement. For example, we say “make me a channel of your peace”, and there’s a real promise in it. When we forgive, we are forgiven; when we give, we receive. Not as a transaction, but as a reshaping of who we are!
Grace doesn’t make us earn God’s home; it invites us to live in the Spirit so God’s will is done on earth as in heaven. That’s the point of “by whom, with whom, and in whom” - the life we offer comes through Christ, with the Spirit, in communion with God.
Jesus pins this down simply: “And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water…that person will certainly not lose their reward” (Matthew 10:42). I heard of a lady who died last year at 101 who lived that truth. She’d give a glass of water without question because she trusted that God would give her a whole bottle back — maybe even fizzy. She wasn’t calculating reward; she loved and trusted the Giver. That trust changed her powerfully into someone who loved freely and perfectly.
Love laid down is the heartbeat of faith: “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (John 15:13). Jesus comes that we might have life in full (John 10:10) and promises resurrection and eternal life (John 11:25; 1 John 2:25). Those are not abstract comforts - they are the ground of courageous, generous living now.
At funerals, people sometimes hear: you shared your life with us; God give you eternal life. You gave your love to us; God give His deep love to you. You gave your light to us; God give you everlasting light. Go on your journey to love, light and life eternal. Amen.
Holiness matters here because it’s the air of the throne-room (Isaiah 6; Revelation 4–5). Awe doesn’t push God away - it draws us into right worship and right action. Pursuing holiness (1 Peter 1:15–16; Hebrews 12:14) trains our hands for mercy and our hearts for justice. So being a channel of God’s peace means showing up: small kindnesses, bold forgiveness, steady justice - all lived out because we’ve been given everything already. That’s what’s in it for us: not a reward to grab, but a life transformed and a world glimpsed from God’s own heart. (Jo x)
