Part 5: THE MAGNIFICENCE OF GOD AND HIS DEITY - 14. Responding to God's Magnificence (practical worship, devotion, holiness, justice and mission shaped by awe).
We can all agree that there is something pretty awesome about standing under a vast star-filled night sky, or hearing a song that makes your chest catch - that is awe. It’s not just a nice feeling; it’s a holy alarm that points us to Someone bigger, kinder, and more beautiful than we can make sense of.
When God’s magnificence meets our ordinary days, our hearts open to a worship that becomes more than an hour on Sunday: it becomes the way we breathe, choose - and love.
Awe changes the way we pray. Instead of rehearsed lines or performances, prayer becomes honest conversation with our Father God who is both vast and near.
Start small: tell him your real tiredness, anger, or hope. Let silence be part of your talk. Isaiah’s vision (Isaiah 6) didn’t stay in the throne room - it sent him out to serve. When we stand in God’s presence, our mouths confess, and our hands move.
Awe reshapes holiness: Being set apart isn’t about rules for rules’ sake; it’s about living in response to worth. If God is magnificent, then our choices matter - in how we use social media, how we talk about others, how we handle stress. Holiness is actually quite simple: it is choosing what reflects God’s beauty - even when no one’s watching.
Awe fuels justice: If God cares about the world he made, then our worship has to touch the hungry, the bullied, and the overlooked. Justice isn’t only marching or big speeches - it’s the brave, small acts: standing up for someone, giving time to a neighbour, sharing resources with someone struggling. Micah 6:8 isn’t optional; it’s worship in motion.
Awe sends us on mission: Worship that stays in the Church is incomplete. When awe roots us, we walk into work, school, sports, and friendships, carrying mercy, truth, and courage. For those who are concerned about what to do, Mission looks like listening more than talking, loving before judging, and showing up - even when it’s awkward.
Try this week: begin each morning with “God, show me one thing of your Glory today.” At night, write one sentence about what you noticed and one small action you took because of it. Tiny habits grow a life shaped by wonder - a life that worships with hands, feet, and a heart set on the magnificent God who came near.
