Part 5: THE MAGNIFICENCE OF GOD AND HIS DEITY - 8. God’s Goodness (the loving, generous character of God that grounds hope and gratitude).
Look at what God in Jesus achieved for us. That's a love that doesn’t depend on what you can or cannot do. A love that's steady, kind, and always giving: that’s God’s goodness. (Colossians 1:19)
It’s not just a physical feeling or a brilliant idea; it’s the heart of who God is and therefore the reason we can trust, hope, and be grateful even when life gets messy.
Goodness as Comfort: God’s goodness means He wants only what’s truly best for us. When you feel unseen, or maybe shameful, or even stuck somewhere, God’s posture toward you is mercy - not punishment! Psalm 34:8 invites us to “taste and see that the Lord is good,” reminding us that God’s care is real and available. That goodness brings rest: you don’t have to perform to earn love; you’re already held close by a generous, loving Father.
Goodness as Guide and Promise: God’s goodness shapes how He acts in the world: He gives gifts, opens doors, and gives second chances. James 1:17 calls every good and perfect gift “from above,” showing that the blessings in our lives point back to His Character. Even when answers don’t come how we expect, we can trust God’s intentions are good, which frees us to move forward without doubt or fear.
Responding to God’s Goodness:
- Receive it: Let God’s kindness wash over your failures and fears. And don’t fight Grace - accept it.
- Live it out: If God is generous, we should be too. Small acts: listening, forgiving, sharing, all reflect His heart.
- Practice gratitude: Naming daily gifts trains your eyes to see God’s goodness in ordinary moments.
- Hold hope in hard times: Goodness doesn’t erase pain, but it promises a faithful Presence that works toward healing and growth.
A Short Practice: Each night this week, think on (or even better, write down) one thing God did for you that day - even if it's tiny. Over time you’ll build a map of God’s kindness that strengthens your faith.
God’s goodness is the root of our hope and the reason gratitude grows in us. It doesn’t pretend life is perfect; it promises a loving God who’s always at work for our good. Let that truth shape how you see yourself, treat others, and face each new day.
