(Jeremiah 29:11) "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you."
Part 3: WE MAY LET GO... BUT GOD NEVER WILL — 5. Prayer (Renewed dependence and confession)
TESTIMONY - "I used to buy drugs from two people who lived near me. One day, I heard they’d suddenly become Jesus freaks, and all my druggie friends warned me to stay away. What none of us knew was that God had told them to pray for everyone still caught up in drinking and drugs. Later, I learned they’d been praying for my partner, my young daughter, and me. Long story short: my daughter and I got saved, and my partner left.
Those two took me under their wing, discipled me, and we began attending the same church. I learned to pray — especially for our children. The woman especially prayed for families and for future husbands and wives for their children, so I started praying the same way. Even though my daughter was only ten, I began praying for her future husband. In praying, I drew closer to God and began to see His will for my daughter and our family.
I prayed things like, “Father, I don’t know where he is or what he’s doing, but I pray that he is born again and truly knows You.” I prayed for his parents, their provision, that they would raise him right. I prayed he would love the Word and worship, for his education, and for God’s hand over his union with my daughter.
She had a short teenage relationship that went nowhere, then went to university, where I got a Holy Spirit nudge to confront her over another relationship, which ended suddenly. I knew those men weren’t for her because I already “knew” the person I’d been praying for — so when counterfeits appeared, I recognised them.
As Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good…” She later casually introduced me to a young man who was just finishing university. I knew immediately it was him. They weren’t even a couple yet, but the Holy Spirit showed me his heart, “Love, Compassion, Gentleness, Kindness” shone through. I was at peace. Later, he asked my permission to date my daughter; I agreed and set boundaries, including protecting her purity.
They’ve now been married for almost two years. Most importantly, I know the man she married was sown into her life with prayer and is God’s choice for her — an answer to over fifteen years of praying. (Sally Ann x)
