(Matthew 23:27) "Woe to you ... hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within are full of dead people's bones and all uncleanness. So you also outwardly appear righteous to others, but within you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness."

Part 2: THINGS THAT TRIP UP CHRISTIANS — 1. Hypocrisy (Saying one thing, living another)

Basically, hypocrisy trips Christians up because it replaces authentic faith with mere appearance.

When people emphasise outward religion—using correct 'churchy' words, public piety, or moral posturing—while ignoring the condition of their heart, the light of Christ is dimmed within them, and their witness dulled. All because hypocrisy tempts us to measure spiritual success by image rather than by obedience, leading to a beautifully transformed character.

Take heed: hypocrisy breeds discouragement and scandal. When a believer’s life contradicts their words, others may reject the Gospel, and the hypocrite can stop repenting—too busy chasing approval while their heart quietly decays.

Practical steps: The cure begins with a Psalm 51-style brutally honest self-examination, confession of double-mindedness, and a return to the disciplines that cultivate holiness: Scripture, prayer, accountability, and sacrificial love. Seek accountability with compassionate truth-tellers. Practice humility by putting others before yourself, and let obedience flow from love for Christ rather than from desire for approval.

Let’s pray, “Heavenly Father, is this me? Have I become a play-actor rather than a loyal servant of Jesus? Search my heart and expose any hypocrisy. Give me honest repentance, humility, and a love that shows in word and deed. Cleanse me, Lord, restore my eyes to You, and help me live with integrity so others may see Your Truth." Amen!
