(John 13:13) “You call me Teacher and Lord; and you are right, for so I am.”

Part 1: WHO DOES JESUS SAY HE IS — Rabbi / Teacher

When we call Jesus “Rabbi” or “Teacher,” we recognise him as the authoritative, formative instructor who opens Scripture, shapes disciples, and reveals God’s Way for Life. It isn’t merely a role; it shapes how we listen, learn, and follow.

A name that affirms his authoritative wisdom
“Rabbi/Teacher” points to Jesus’ deep knowledge of Scripture and therefore God’s ways—his teaching carries weight because he interprets the law, fulfils prophecy, and speaks with God‑given authority. (Matthew 5–7; John 3:2; Luke 24:27)

A name that shows his method of formation
Jesus teaches with parables, questions, examples, and intimate explanation—inviting hearers into insight rather than merely imparting information. His teaching forms hearts as well as minds. (Mark 4; Matthew 13; Luke 8:18; John 13:13–17)

A name that calls for costly discipleship
To call him Teacher is to accept his call to follow: learning means taking up a cross, obeying his commands, and being transformed by his truth—not casual attendance but committed apprenticeship. (Luke 9:23; John 8:31–32; Matthew 28:19–20)

A name that shapes community and mission
As Rabbi, Jesus reorients relationships and mission: his teaching fosters love, justice, and service within the community and sends disciples into the world to teach and heal in his name. (John 13:34–35; Matthew 22:37–40; Acts 2:42)

In short, as “Rabbi/Teacher”, Jesus defines both our formation and calling: Jesus is the compassionate Master who reveals the Father’s heart, lovingly shapes our lives as his disciples, and sends us out to live and share that faithful love. (Hebrews 4:12; John 6:45)

Let’s pray, “Heavenly Father, thank You for making our Lord Jesus, my Rabbimy Teacher of Truth. Open my heart to His eternal words. Teach me to listen, to obey, and to be shaped by His example. Give me humility to learn, courage to follow, and love to serve others as He taught. Make me a faithful disciple and a patient, wise witness to Your way.” Amen!
