In this series, we're delving deeper into the teachings that Jesus left us to follow. The fifth commandment leads us to our next focus: BAPTISM ...
First, let's clarify the meaning of "Baptism." The word comes from the Greek "baptizo," which means "to immerse," "to dip," or "to submerge." NB - Consider the transformation of a cucumber into a pickled gherkin: through the process, the cucumber undergoes a fundamental chemical change, altering its original properties. Similarly, much like the cucumber undergoes a transformation, our original characteristics are changed to reflect those of Christ Jesus.
Furthermore, Jesus didn't offer Baptism as merely a suggestion. Baptism IS the gateway through which we receive purification, rebirth, and entry into a faith community. It is a rite recognised as a means of Divine Grace that marks the believer's entry into the faith, associated with the washing away of sins and the beginning of a new life in Christ, which identifies the death, burial, and (of course) resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Let us pray, Heavenly Father, I come to You in the name of Jesus. I believe that Jesus is Your Son, that He died for my sins, and that He rose again in triumph. I confess my sins and ask for Your forgiveness and mercy. I believe that in baptism, I am buried with Christ in His death, and raised to a new life in His resurrection. Thank You for the cleansing power of the Holy Spirit that is at work in me. Lord, if I am lacking, then I ask that You baptise me afresh with the Holy Spirit, filling me with Your power and presence. Help me to walk in the newness of life and to be a faithful follower of Jesus, now and forever." Amen!
