(Hebrews 12:29) "... Our GOD is a consuming fire."

It feels like GOD has been guiding me on a journey that (re-re)affirms both His Lordship AND my identity as a child of the Living God. I'm hoping this next series is primarily about my personal growth (and that my own stubborn reluctance has made this lesson necessary). If you feel inclined, you can either pray for my heart to become more open and receptive to His guidance or humble yourselves and join me on this path where our hearts can grow more open and receptive together.

The above verse is often interpreted as highlighting GOD's holiness and power, where, much like fire, His presence is purifying and transformative. Much like fire refines and cleanses, GOD's presence and influence purifies our hearts and lives, clearing away impurities to encourage spiritual growth. NB - It also serves as a reminder of GOD's awe-inspiring nature and the reverence due to Him.

Further, it also warns us that whatever we 'do' we are always, "... surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off every encumbrance and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with endurance the race set out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart."

In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood. And you have forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons:

“My son, do not take lightly the discipline of the Lord,
and do not lose heart when He rebukes you.
For the Lord disciplines the one He loves,
and He chastises every son He receives.”

Please reconsider the clear and present warning in verse 1: we are told to fix our eyes on Jesus, because if we don't, we will grow weary and lose heart!

Let us pray, "Heavenly Father, refine me in the fire of Your presence, purify my heart, and burn away all that is not of You."

"Lord, let Your Holy Spirit ignite a passionate and unwavering love for You within me." Amen!
