(Genesis 2:18) "Then the Lord God said, 'It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”
'A helper?' That's probably not the word that I would choose. Ancient texts use the words 'ezer kenegdo,' translated to 'helper suitable.'
Now the word 'ezer' (or helper) could mean: (a) secondary, (b) or subservient, (c) or only there to assist, (d) or when needed ... but 'ezer' is much more than that!
The ancient translation is a word that means 'the necessary kind of strength or help that one cannot do for themselves'. It's the help you cry out for when you're drowning. The type of strength you need when you have none left. The rescue that shows up when all feels lost! Help that saves. Help that strengthens. Help that you cannot do without!
Ezer isn't just a 'nice' word that means 'helpful', it's a word that means 'essential!' It's a word that's used 21 times in the old Testament, and sixteen of those times are used when GOD uses them to describe Himself.
(Psalm 33:20) The Lord is my (ezer) help
(Psalm 70:5) O God, thou art my (ezer) help and my deliverer
(Deuteronomy 33:29) Happy art thou, O Israel... people saved by the Lord, the shield of thy (ezer) help.
He made her: To strengthen. To rescue. To stand with. Just like He does! That word is a permission word. An invitation word. A 'call for help' word!
It was not good for man to be alone, so God created an 'ezer!'
THIS is why the devil tries his best to destroy marriages! Because he knows that your 'ezer' is: Help that saves. Help that strengthens. Help that you can't do without.

Let us pray, "Heavenly Father, (as a man), I am truly grateful for the 'ezer' that You have given me. I am truly blessed, Lord. (As a woman), I am truly grateful that I am created to be the 'ezer' for the man You have given me. I am truly blessed, Lord." Amen!
