(Ezekiel 28:17) "Your heart was proud and arrogant because of your beauty; you destroyed your wisdom for the sake of your splendour."
Interestingly, the most commonly confessed sins are pride (which got the devil thrown out of Heaven)! And lust ...! The Bible condemns lust, both in general and specifically for 'things.' Scriptures warn against the "lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and pride of life," which are seen as not coming from GOD but from the world.
Passages like 1 John 2:16 "For all that is in the world—the lust and sensual craving of the flesh and the lust and longing of the eyes and the boastful pride of life [pretentious confidence in one’s resources or in the stability of earthly things]—these do not come from the Father, but are from the world."
And Colossians 3:5 "So put to death and deprive of power the evil longings of your earthly body [with its sensual, self-centred instincts] immorality, impurity, sinful passion, evil desire, and greed, which is [a kind of] idolatry [because it replaces your devotion to God]."
NB - I was still thinking how to put these evil longings to death when a few hours later, I watched a priest on FB stating, "Christ could take away lust (or pride) from a man just like that (he clicks his fingers). But the reason he doesn't is the same as with all the passions; it's because the 'struggle' is our salvation. In actually learning to properly battle against lust (or pride), men will draw near to GOD and learn the spiritual life. They'll learn how to pray in a way that they never would have otherwise! They'll learn how to fast, how to read the Scriptures, how to get into the Presence of GOD. They will learn how to become more fulfilled men - all because of their struggles.Let's pray together, "Lord, I acknowledge Your warnings that I should avoid lust and pride for the dangers these vices contain and seek Your Grace to overcome them. I confess my sins before You and repent of whatever has come between us. Please, Lord, guide me in how to live a life of victory and purity before You.” Amen!
