(John 16:33) [Jesus speaking] “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart—I have overcome the world.”
This series explores how God speaks to us. Part 18: Grief — the normal response to losing something precious.
God will never abandon us to grief—Scripture repeatedly affirms that God draws near, comforts, and participates in our grief.
Grief can touch your feelings (sadness, anger), your body (fatigue, poor sleep), your mind (confusion, trouble focusing), and your spirit (doubt, a loss of meaning).
Sometimes it feels like a wall between you and God: anger or numbness makes prayer hard, painful questions crowd your heart, unmet expectations leave you feeling abandoned, and sheer exhaustion drains your spiritual strength.
Be honest with God—pour out your pain as the psalmists do—and stay near in small ways: a brief prayer, a comforting verse, or a familiar song.
Let others in; their presence often matters more than answers.
Name your feelings and consider speaking with a priest, pastor, trusted friend, or a recognised grief group. Above all, cling to who God is—even when your emotions don’t match that truth.
Like bringing a virus‑infected computer to an expert, bring your wounded heart to the Holy Spirit, who gently steadies, reframes, and heals with patient care.

Let’s pray, “Heavenly Father, when grief, fear, or weariness rise, remind me that You are with me and have already won the final victory. Give me courage to face today, peace that steadies my heart, and hope that outlives my circumstances. Help me rest in Your triumph, trust Your presence, and lean on Your strength." Amen!
