(Luke 22:19) "And He (Jesus) took the bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, 'This is My body, given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same way, after supper, He took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is poured out for you.”

In this series, we're delving deeper into the teachings that Jesus left us to follow. The thirteenth commandment leads us to our next focus: COMMUNION.

In 1 Corinthians 11:24-25, Paul recounts Jesus' words during the Last Supper. He emphasises the importance of remembering Christ's sacrifice. The bread represents Jesus' body, broken for humanity, and the cup symbolises the new covenant in His blood. The teachings focus on partaking in Communion with reverence and gratitude, reflecting on the sacrifice made for the forgiveness of sins and the establishment of a new relationship with GOD. Believers are urged to approach the ritual thoughtfully, honouring its spiritual significance and the unity it fosters within the Christian community. So, just for clarity ...

The original Greek word for "communion" is "κοινωνία" (koinonia). This term signifies fellowship, sharing, or participation, highlighting the practice's communal and relational aspects.

The word "communion" originates from the Latin term "communio," meaning "sharing" or "fellowship." This, in turn, is derived from "communis," meaning "common" or "shared." The concept emphasises participation and unity in the sharing of the Eucharist, symbolising the fellowship of believers with Christ and one another.

As such, "communion" can be conceptually broken down to "common union," which is the 'shared experience' of believers in the Eucharist. Our 'common-union', therefore, captures both our fervent allegiance to our shared principles and the close-knit bond we maintain within our Faith.

And what is it we each share? In Communion, we share: (a) in the remembrance of Jesus Christ's sacrifice, symbolised by the bread and wine. This act represents the shared belief in His redemptive work, (b) the spiritual nourishment from His body and blood, and (c) the unity among believers as one body in Christ.

My wife has received an awesome teaching on this, which I will begin to share with you all tomorrow. ❤️

Let's pray, "Heavenly Father, with humble hearts, we gather and remember in gratitude the sacrifice of Your Son, Jesus. As we reflect on how He broke the bread and shared the cup, we are reminded of His boundless love and the new covenant sealed through His sacrifice. May we carry this remembrance in our hearts, living out His teachings and embodying His love. Unite us as one body, and guide us to walk in faith and compassion. In His precious name." Amen!
