I remember accompanying my friend Les Mitchell out to Madrid to visit REMAR Ministries. This is a place where everyone (including the pastors and their wives) had all been rescued from lives ravaged by drug and alcohol addiction. We were chaperoned by a beautiful man who was once someone prominent in their police detective force but who had got caught himself in the heroin trap and, through his underhanded dealings, had subsequently lost everything - wife, children, parents, family ...
Fully restored now, he and his new family were loving and helping each other; they miraculously turned all their lives around - and then dedicated their lives to helping others.
Each night after dinner, they would all go out and, knowing just where to look, would search for people who were bound in chains by drug and alcohol addiction. They would then bring them back to their collective homes and practically set about helping them by sitting, praying and mopping up vomit and excrement as they worked through cold turkey so as to get them back onto a healthy non-dependant path.
Yes, the people had free will to either stay or go – but all in all, they lived with a fabulous 70% success rate!
Don’t doubt (and do without) – only believe.
