Remember, our Message is not about ourselves; we’re proclaiming Jesus Christ, the Master.
All we are is messengers, errand runners from Jesus for you.
It started when God said, “Light up the darkness!” and our lives filled up with light as we saw and understood God in the face of Christ, all bright and beautiful. (2 Cor 4:5)
It's Saturday, and Church leaders all over the world will be faced with this predicament, "Lord, I've been working on a good idea for tomorrow's sermon - but I'd much rather that YOU came here and preached!"
I remember my good friend and Pastor Les Mitchell telling me a great story about this. Apparently, as he watched the people set up for their regular Sunday church service, he suddenly decided that the worship group and technicians were taking an inordinately long time, and so he called out: “Everybody stop!” Then pointing to a young guy with a guitar, he said, “You, what do you play?” The young guy nervously responded, “Rhythm guitar, Pastor.” “Do you sing too?" The young man shrugged his shoulders and responded, “Sort of.” “Great, says Les, everybody else, take a break and join the congregation; this young man alone will bring the Worship today!”
Whether it was the young man’s fear, or his colleague's encouragement or support, I guess we’ll never know – but Les told me how the Holy Spirit came in Power and fell on everyone.
Remember, our Message is not about ourselves; we’re proclaiming Jesus Christ, the Master. "All we are is messengers, errand runners from Jesus for you…."
