(Colossians 2:20) "If you have died with Christ to the spiritual forces of the world, why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its regulations?"

I read this yesterday and couldn't put it down...

Then the Lord brought me to a reading which stated, "If a person really believes that Christ, not the Law, is the focus of their lives, why would they continue to obsess over human rules and regulations? In other words, why do we believers still act like unbelievers in some areas? We are to live out our lives by walking in faith in Christ (Colossians 2:6). The ascetic teachings or rules of false teachers are not binding upon us and offer no advantage.

NB - 'asceticism' involves strict self-discipline and abstention from indulgence, usually for religious reasons. In this context, some teachers have been promoting such practices as necessary for achieving spiritual growth or favour with God. However, believers are not required to follow them as a condition of their faith, as adhering to these rules will not lead to any true advantage or deeper relationship with GOD.

Ultimately, our sufficiency is found in our relationship with Christ, underscoring the need to depend on Him rather than adhering to man-made rules or ascetic practices that offer absolutely no spiritual benefit.

Let us pray, "Heavenly Father, thank you for making us free from the rules of the world through our death with Christ. Since we are dead to the world's basic principles, protect us from deceptive teachings that may seem wise but ultimately do not stop the flesh from sinning; rather, they seek to lead us away from our union with Christ. Instead, may we be firmly rooted and built up in Him, living in the freedom and liberty that only Christ provides." Amen!
