(Matthew 18:21) "Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother who sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered, “I tell you, not just seven times, but seventy-seven times!”
I was recently asked about why Christians struggle with unforgiveness. Here are my personal thoughts...
Primarily, we are living in a world shaped by entitlement, where the prevailing belief is often, "That's not fair!" As such, even born-again Christians seem to struggle with unforgiveness for several reasons. First, the emotional pain associated with being wronged can make it difficult to let go, leading to resentment and bitterness.
Additionally, some of us grapple with the misconception that forgiving someone means condoning their actions, which can certainly create internal conflict. Furthermore, the process of forgiveness often requires vulnerability and humility, which can be challenging for many.
Even when pastors or mentors eloquently express how minor conflicts pale in comparison to the depth of GOD's forgiveness, it often appears to lead some individuals to dig in their heels even further, making it challenging for them to extend that same grace to others.
Lastly, we have to navigate the elusive presence of social media. The influences of society and our personal experiences can make forgiveness more challenging, transforming it into a complex journey that requires ongoing reflection and a total reliance on GOD’s strength, which is EXACTLY why Jesus said, "Apart from Me you can do nothing!" (John 15:5)

Let us pray, "Heavenly Father, thank you for your endless mercy and for completely forgiving me through Jesus Christ, cleansing my sins and making them as white as snow. You've shown me such grace, and now I seek your help to be a vessel of that same mercy to others. Lord, I desire to forgive those who have wronged me, just as you have forgiven my failings. Soften my heart to release anger, bitterness, and resentment. Please fill me with your Holy Spirit so that I may have the strength and patience to offer genuine, heartfelt forgiveness. Help me to see others through Your eyes, recognising their inherent worth and dignity as Your creation. Remind me of the immense debt You forgave in my life, allowing me to release this debt of love to others. May my forgiveness be a choice grounded in faith and gratitude, bringing freedom and peace to my soul while glorifying Your name." Amen!
