(Psalm 119:105) “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path."
- 2. Prayer: Through personal communication and reflection with GOD.
- NB - The meaning of Prayer is that we get hold of GOD - not the answer!
Aim: Over time, many of us will share experiences of feeling that we have received messages from GOD through prayer. These encounters will often involve a sense of calm, insight, excitement, as well as responses to our inquiries and needs. As I’ve grown older in Christ, I've come to see that prayer revolves around confession, petition, thanksgiving, and praise. It's an incredibly important occasion of personal, intimate conversation with GOD, deepening our spiritual connection over time.
Example 3 - "The Church service was filling rapidly, but we managed to get a seat in the aisle for a better view. A mother came in with her young daughter in a wheelchair, about 14 or 15 years old. We introduced ourselves, and the daughter, who I later learned was deaf, turned around to face me. I saw that she likely had a stroke recently, as one side of her face had sadly drooped.
Something in me reacted strongly to this terrible situation, and throughout the service I prayed, interceded, and even begged GOD for a miracle. During the healing service, the mother put her head in her hands and begged me to wheel her daughter to the front for prayer, as she didn’t have it in her to go and face GOD. I returned to my seat feeling deflated—nothing had changed...!
As I sat there sulking, the Holy Spirit gently said, “If you’d listened to me, I would have told you that it’s not the daughter but the mother who needs me today.”
At that, I abruptly turned to the mother and shared what the Lord had said. She initially denied it, but after a moment of defending herself, she relented and shared her story: “My daughter is the best thing that ever happened to me. She is the result of my being raped as a young girl. She was perfectly normal until she suffered a stroke a few months ago and ended up in this wheelchair.
"As for me, I was abandoned as a child. With much effort, I found my birth mother recently. We knocked on her door, and after I introduced myself, she said, ‘I thought I’d gotten rid of you years ago—get lost and take that cripple with you!’”
By this point, both of us were crying. I was seeking forgiveness for my impulsive arrogance, and she was lost in her pain…
Communion had just begun. I urged her to come with me to the altar and receive. We were the last to kneel. She sobbed so much on my shoulder that I thought my suit would never dry! I don't know what the Lord said to her, but He met her magnificently, and when she returned to her seat, her daughter, through signs and writing on her hand, commented that she was glowing! (Warren)
