(Genesis 39:2) "The Lord was with Joseph, and he [even though a slave] became a successful and prosperous man."

This morning, while having breakfast with my old friend Fabio, I was troubled to realise that as we shared our lives, I found it easier to dwell on the negative aspects rather than the often redeeming positives.

It seems that some of us struggle with an artificial sense of entitlement. We assume that we have the right to be happy, that we somehow deserve the good and comfortable circumstances of life. So, when things go amiss, we react with shock, bitterness and anger, as if our rights have been violated.

The difference is that Joseph knew the stories of his fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, so he did not suppose that GOD had forgotten or abandoned him. Instead, he humbly submitted himself to GOD’s higher, (mysterious) purpose.

Due to Joseph's unwavering faith in GOD, he maintained a relentless optimism that turned even his challenging circumstances of slavery into success. And through this faith in GOD, as the Bible states, he became 'a successful man.'

Let's pray, "Father God, I thank you for your presence in my life. Just as you were with Joseph, I ask that you be with me today, guiding my steps and prospering my endeavours. Help me to be diligent and excellent in all that I do, not just for my own benefit, but for Your Glory. I trust that you are with me in both the good times and the challenging circumstances, and I thank you for your redeeming Faithfulness." Amen!
