(Isaiah 43:1) “Don’t be afraid, I’ve redeemed you. I’ve called your name. You’re mine. When you’re in over your head, I’ll be there with you. When you’re in rough waters, you will not go down. When you’re between a rock and a hard place, it won’t be a dead end— Because I am GOD, your personal God, The Holy of Israel, your Saviour.”
I came across this awesome Word while researching data for my book, and it brought about a memory of walking into a Church many years ago when I was lost and desperate.
I was about 27 years old, drove a big, shiny new Mercedes, and had access to more money in my monthly expenses account than most people earned in a few months. But I felt inured inside, and so lost.
I remember sitting there listening to the choir and thinking: “Who am I? What am I here for? Is there actually a reason for my existence? Do I even have a purpose...?
Then, through all the perplexity, the light of understanding dawned as GOD began singing it to me. Listen for yourself and hear Him singing it to you …
Do not be afraid, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by your name; You are mine.
When you walk through the waters, I’ll be with you; you will never have to sink beneath the waves.
When the fire is burning all around you, you will never be consumed by the flames.
When the fear of loneliness is looming, then remember I am ever at your side.
When you dwell in the exile of a stranger, remember you are precious in my eyes.
You are mine, O my child; I am your father, and I love you with a perfect love.
Let's pray: "Heavenly Father, I thank you for reaching down to where I was hiding and calling me by name, for declaring that I am yours. Help me to remember in times of trouble, when I feel overwhelmed by the 'waters' or 'fire' of life to remember your promise to be with me and that these challenges will not overwhelm or consume me. Grant me Lord the courage to face whatever comes, knowing that you are my refuge and strength. Help me to honour you in all I do." Amen.
