(Psalm 27:8) "When You said, “Seek My face [in prayer, require My presence as your greatest need],” my heart said to You, “Your face, O Lord, I will seek [on the authority of Your word].”
We read people’s faces all day. Wherever we are, we’re constantly seeking assistance; perhaps it's shopping, doctor and Hospital visits, work, or at the garage...?
So what are we looking for in people's faces? Understanding? Assistance? Compassion? Grace? Empathy?
And don’t we all know how horrible and demeaning it feels when we receive the opposite …!? But Scripture warns us, "...not to give the devil a foothold..." (Ephesians 4:26)
Further, Jesus tells us plainly what might happen to us if we do:
(Luke 6:37) [Jesus speaking] “Don’t pick on people, jump on their failures, criticise their faults—unless, of course, you want the same treatment. Don’t condemn those who are down; that hardness can boomerang. Be easy on people; you’ll find life a lot easier. Give away your life; you’ll find life given back, but not merely given back—given back with bonus and blessing. Giving, not getting, is the way. Generosity begets generosity.”
Let's pray together, "Gracious God, as you have shown mercy and forgiveness to me, help me to be merciful and forgiving to others that I meet. Help me to resist the urge to judge and condemn, knowing that I too am in need of your mercy. Instil in me a desire to forgive, just as you have forgiven me, and to help set others free from their burdens. May my heart be filled with compassion and understanding, and may I be slower to judge and quicker to forgive, for the sake of your love and grace." Amen!
