(Luke 11:11) [Jesus speaking] ”What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you, then, being evil [that is, sinful by nature], know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask and continue to ask Him!"
There was a time at work a while ago when I kept seeing someone degenerate and looking really unwell. So I said, "You've not been looking too well lately. Are you alright?” They responded, “I haven’t been sleeping well lately, lots of thoughts and bad dreams.” I said, bad dreams, eh? “Have you ever thought of praying?" They looked up and at me, straight into my eyes, and said, “No, I wouldn’t even know what to say.” I just shrugged and said, “Just call out to Jesus, he’ll help you.” They turned their head away from me and said, “I wouldn’t feel comfortable doing that …!”
So, I said, “If your car broke down in the car park here, who would you ask to help you?” “That’s easy, I’d ask (so and so), as he’s a good mechanic.” “And how would you approach him, what would you say?”
“... I see where you’re going with this. You mean don’t be all flowery, and just go up and ask.” "Absolutely!"
Next day, “How did you sleep last night?” “Really well, thanks!” He said, pointing upwards.
Let's pray together, "Lord... Yes, I acknowledge you as Lord of my life and I thank you for your guidance and my much needed forgiveness. I truly thank you for who You are and what You have done both in my life and the lives of those I care for. Help me Lord express my needs, requests, and desires, as I also share both my hopes and worries with You. Help me also to trust in Your Wisdom and timing."
