... where did you come from and where are you going?” (Genesis 16:11)
I read these words, which the Angel of the Lord spoke to Sarai's maid Hagar yesterday, and they've really stuck in my mind as being totally relevant to us all today! In fact, the symbolism in these words makes me think of the powerful classic 'Footprints in the Sand.' Anyway, here goes:
"Where did you come from?" Alcoholic/ drug dependency? Bullied? Family trauma? Loss of a loved one? Rejection? Perfectionist? Antagonist? Etc. etc.
"Where are you going?" I'm sure I don't have to guide you by the proverbial hand here, so in order to keep this Blog short, I'll jump to the conclusion, which is that this statement is probably better to read as "Why are you carrying all that 'stuff' in your heart (which makes you react that way) when Christ has perfectly set you free from your past)?" (Gal 5:1) "It was for this freedom that Christ set us free [completely liberating us]; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery [which you once removed]."
Reactive memories (fear) keep us subject to the yoke of slavery! As such, please, please, PLEASE, take a few minutes today and ask the Lord to show you just what it is you're carrying (that you once removed when you first met Him).
As usual, I've asked the Lord what He wants to say to you, and I believe He led me to this very apt statement from Psalm 81,
"Oh, that My people would listen to Me, That (they) would walk in My ways! Then I would quickly subdue and humble their enemies And turn My hand against their adversaries" (Psalm 81:13)
“Are your ears awake? Listen. Listen to the Wind Words, the Spirit blowing through the churches. Christ-conquerors are safe from Devil-death.” (Rev 2:11)
