(1 Corinthians 15:1–4) Paul summarises the gospel as Christ’s death for our sins, burial, and resurrection “according to the Scriptures.” Matthew 28:18–20, Mark 16:15, Mark 1:15.
Quick pause — I watched a preacher lambast a lot of named preachers I used to watch today. The reason? They weren’t preaching the gospel. So what gospel are we supposed to be following...?
Briefly: The full gospel is the good news that God, who made everything and intended humanity for a relationship with him, rescues sinners through Jesus Christ so we are restored now and will be fully restored forever. Here are the core points:
- Creation: God made humans in His image to know, worship, and reflect Him (Gen 1–2).
- Fall of mankind: Humanity rebelled, bringing sin, death, and alienation from God (Gen 3; Rom 3:23; 5:12).
- Promise/prophecy: God promised a coming Messiah to defeat sin and restore creation (Gen 3:15; Isa 53; Ps 22).
- Incarnation: The Son of God became flesh in Jesus, fully God and fully human (John 1:14).
- Atonement: Jesus lived perfectly and died as our substitute, bearing God’s righteous wrath and satisfying divine justice (Isa 53; 2 Cor 5:21; 1 Pet 2:24).
- Resurrection and ascension: Jesus rose bodily, defeating death, appeared to many, and ascended to reign at God’s right hand (Luke 24; Acts 1; Rom 4:25).
- Justification by faith: All who repent and wholly put their trust in Christ are declared righteous before God by grace through faith (Rom 3:21–26; 5:1; Eph 2:8–9).
- New life and sanctification: Believers are born again, indwelt by the Holy Spirit, and progressively transformed into Christlikeness (John 3:3–8; Rom 8; 2 Cor 3:18).
- Adoption and community: Believers are adopted into God’s family and formed into the church, Christ’s body (Gal 4:4–7; Eph 1:3–14; 1 Cor 12).
- Mission and witness: The redeemed are sent to proclaim the Kingdom (in love) and make disciples, embodying Christ’s love and truth (Matt 28:18–20; Acts 1:8).
- Consummation and hope: Christ will return to judge sin, renew creation, and bring believers into the new heavens and new earth (Rev 21–22; 1 Cor 15:24–28).
What it calls for: repentance from sin, personal trust in Jesus, and lifelong commitment to follow him (Mark 1:15; Acts 2:38; Rom 12:1–2).
Effect and assurance: salvation brings forgiveness, peace with God, the Spirit’s presence, adoption as children, and the sure hope of future resurrection and restored creation (Rom 5:1–11; 8:14–25; 1 John 5:11–13).

Let’s pray, "Heavenly Father, You made us to know and enjoy You, yet we have rebelled and grown distant through sin. Thank You for Jesus, Your Son, who came in flesh, lived perfectly, died for our sins, and rose again, breaking the power of death. I confess my sin and turn from it. I repent and place my trust in Jesus alone for salvation. Thank You for forgiving me, declaring me right with You, and giving me new life by Your Holy Spirit and welcoming me into Your family and helping me to follow Christ by faith each day. Fill me with hope of the resurrection and the promise of a renewed creation." Amen!
