(Isaiah 53) Gives a vivid prophetic portrait of the suffering, atoning Servant whose wounds bring our healing, and the New Testament repeatedly applies it to Jesus (e.g., Acts 8:32–35; Matthew 8:17; 1 Peter 2:24; Romans 4:25), showing how his death and vindication fulfil the messianic promise.

Part 1: WHO DOES JESUS SAY HE IS — Messiah / Christ

When we call Jesus the “Messiah” or “Christ,” we name the Anointed One sent to fulfil God’s promises — the One who brings God’s rescue, presence, and reign into the chaos of our lives.
It isn’t only a title; it shapes how we meet him: as Saviour, King, and Lord.

  1. A Name that states He is God’s promised rescuer
“Messiah/Christ” points to God’s long‑held promise fulfilled in Jesus. He is the Anointed Saviour Israel waited for — the one who brings redemption, reconciles us to God, and ushers in God’s kingdom. (Isaiah 61:1–3; Matthew 16:16–17; Luke 4:18–21)
  2. A name that shows his kingly, servant rule
Christ is both King and Servant. His authority restores justice and peace, yet he exercises power through humble service and sacrificial love. His Kingship overturns worldly power by bearing our sin and laying down his life. (Psalm 2; Mark 10:42–45; Philippians 2:5–11; Isaiah 42:1–4)
  3. A name that brings healing and hope now and forever
As Messiah, Jesus inaugurates God’s healing: forgiveness, restoration, and the coming renewal of all things. His resurrection proves his victory over death and secures our future hope. (Matthew 11:4–6; Luke 24:44–49; Romans 4:25; Revelation 21:1–5)
  4. A name that shapes how we live and worship
Calling him Christ calls us to allegiance: to follow his way, live under his rule, and worship him as Lord. It reorients our loyalties, our justice, and our love toward God’s Kingdom purposes here and now. (Matthew 6:33; Romans 12:1–2; Colossians 1:18; Acts 2:36)

In short, “Messiah/Christ” is fulfilment and rule: Jesus is God's only Anointed Saviour-King who rescues, serves, heals, and reigns — calling us into faith (in Him), obedience (in Him), and hope (in Him). (John 20:31; Hebrews 1:1–4)
