They came, tons of them, bringing along the paraplegic, the blind, the maimed, the mute—all sorts of people in need—and more or less threw them down at Jesus’ feet to see what he would do with them. He healed them. When the people saw the mutes speaking, the maimed healthy, the paraplegics walking around, the blind looking around, they were astonished and let everyone know that God was blazingly alive among them. (Mat 15:30)

This Scripture sticks in my mind for many reasons. My wife and I had been married for only a few months when we were invited to our annual Christmas party at the company headquarters in Hamburg.

I was sitting in an aisle seat as the plane began taxying down the runway when I happened to glance across at the guy sitting opposite me and noticed that he seemed to be struggling badly with something. He didn't seem to have any coordination in his arms; they were flailing severely as he desperately tried to reach up and undo his collar. By the time the wheels had left the ground and the plane began climbing rapidly, his face had gone quite purple, and he began gasping for breath! At that point, his seat belt suddenly became undone, and he fell into the aisle and rolled over to my seat!

I was only young in the Lord, and to be honest, I froze! That is until my wife nudged me painfully in the ribs and hissed, "You have to help him!"

At that, I came out of my stupor, quickly undid my seatbelt, and with an air hostess undoing her harness and bearing down on me like a stampeding rhinoceros, I managed to turn him onto his side and undid his shirt top button. The air hostess was trying to force me back to my seat, and while she was pulling at my shoulder, I found myself repeating, "Father, I don't want this to happen to him; please help him. Please, Father, I don't want this to happen to him; please help him..."

The guy suddenly shot upright as if he'd been cattle-prodded! He stared blankly at me, then at the air hostess, then mumbled something in German and promptly sat back in his seat.

NB - These were the days when a full breakfast was served on planes; ten minutes later, we watched as he roundly finished off his meal, mopping around the plate as if he was starving!

Was he healed supernaturally? Tracey and I believe so. Did the Lord get the Glory? He certainly did from us ...
