(John 14:15) “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you."

After two decades of blogging, many of you have shared your struggles with me, such as: "I can't hear the Holy Spirit!" or "How do I know when He's guiding me?" In this new series, we'll explore what Scripture reveals about the Holy Spirit. Jesus emphasised the necessity of the Holy Spirit's Guidance and involvement in living out our faith boldly and authentically in several key passages:

  1. John 3:5: Jesus told Nicodemus, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.” This highlights the Holy Spirit's essential role in spiritual rebirth and salvation.
  2. John 14:16-17: Jesus promised His disciples that He would ask the Father to give them another Helper, the Spirit of truth, to be with them forever. This emphasises the Spirit's role in guiding and supporting believers.
  3. Acts 1:8: Before His ascension, Jesus told His disciples, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses.” This underscores the Spirit's empowering presence for living out and spreading the faith.

I've noticed that Christians experience the Holy Spirit in many different ways, and here's why I think that is:

  1. Your Unique Connection: Everyone's relationship with the Holy Spirit is 'personal'. Some hear a voice, others feel nudges or impressions.
  2. Spiritual Sensitivity: How in tune you are spiritually can shape how you perceive Him. A great place to start is, "Hi, you know my heart, you know I want to hear you. Can you help me, please?"
  3. Personal Style: Just like we all learn differently, we experience the Spirit differently. Some catch auditory cues, while others rely on feelings or intuition. Let Him decide, step back and let Him lead!
  4. Life's Ups and Downs: Your current life situation can impact how you sense the Spirit. Stress or distractions can make it harder to "hear" Him. Decide to receive His Peace, trust him ... then wait.

As I've tried to show. The Holy Spirit connects with each of us in different ways, based on who we are and what we need. Every experience is unique. The key is to build a real relationship with Him, so He can communicate in ways that truly resonate with us.

Let us pray, Heavenly Father, we come before You, seeking the fresh presence of Your Holy Spirit in our lives. Just as Jesus taught us to change and become like little children, we ask for a heart that is open, trusting, and full of wonder. Holy Spirit, fill us with Your refreshing power. Help us to embrace simplicity and joy, to see the world with the innocence and openness of a child. Guide us to trust in Your wisdom and lead us on the path that draws us closer to You. Renew our spirits, inspire our hearts, and help us walk with the faith and purity that Jesus spoke of." Amen!
