(Isaiah 53:5) "But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed."

Part 1: WHO DOES JESUS SAY HE IS — Healer

When we call Jesus “Healer,” we name him the One who mends bodies, restores souls, and makes broken lives whole. His healing work is not only past miracles but a present reality that shapes how we pray, live, and hope.

A name that affirms his healing authority and power

Jesus heals by Divine Authority—bearing our sicknesses and overcoming sin’s damage—so sickness and brokenness do not have the final word. (Isaiah 53:4–5; Matthew 8:16–17; Acts 10:38)

A name that reveals his compassionate presence

Jesus heals out of tender compassion for the hurting; he reaches the outcast, touches the unclean, and responds to cries for help. (Luke 4:18–19; Matthew 9:35–36; Mark 1:40–41)

A name that invites faith, repentance, and holistic restoration

His healing often calls for faith, repentance, and spiritual renewal—bringing body, mind, and soul toward wholeness and righteousness. (Mark 2:17; James 5:14–16; 1 Peter 2:24)

A name that sustains hope, mission, and final restoration

Jesus’ healing ministry gives present hope and points to final restoration—encouraging the church to pray, serve, and anticipate a renewed creation free of suffering. (John 5:2–9; Romans 8:18–23; Revelation 21:4)

In short, “Healer” names Jesus as the compassionate and powerful Saviour who ministers mercy to the sick and broken, calls us to faith and repentance, and guarantees ultimate restoration and renewal. (Isaiah 53:4–5; James 5:14–15)

NB: Of course, there are many other names that Jesus is known by, and I certainly plan to revisit these later — Friend, Comforter/ Helper/ Encourager, Shepherd, Brother/ Intercessor, Light/ Hope, Bridegroom/ Loving Spouse, and more.

Let’s pray, “Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us Jesus to be our Healer. We thank you, Jesus, for compassion and power to mend what is broken. Touch the sick, comfort the hurting, and bring wholeness to body, mind, and soul. Give us faith to trust His touch, humility to seek repentance, and hands to serve those in need until your final restoration. Renew our hope and fill us with your Peace.” Amen!
