(Acts 10:42) Jesus is appointed by God to be Judge of the living and the dead.

Part 1: WHO DOES JESUS SAY HE IS — Judge

When we call Jesus “Judge,” we name him the just and loving referee of our lives — the One who will set wrongs right, defend the weary, and bring what is hidden into the light. This isn’t only about a distant future; it shapes how we live today, answering our longing for justice and our need to become more like him.

A name that trusts his rightful authority

Calling him Judge means we trust that Jesus has the right and the power to decide what is true and good. Given all judgment by the Father, his word carries final weight for our lives and our world. (John 5:22–27; Matthew 28:18; Acts 10:42)

A name that reveals his wise and compassionate judgment

Jesus judges with eyes that see the heart and a wisdom tempered by mercy. He discerns motives, exposes hypocrisy, and upholds what is right — not out of cold severity, but with holy truth that heals. (Hebrews 4:12–13; Romans 2:16; 2 Corinthians 5:10)

A name that invites honest repentance and holy living

To call him Judge is to live with humble accountability. His coming calls us now to turn, to be faithful, and to let our lives reflect justice, mercy, and sincere love — not out of fear alone, but out of reverence and gratitude. (2 Corinthians 5:10; Hebrews 10:26–31; 1 Peter 1:15–16)

A name that brings hope, vindication, and sobering warning

As Judge, Jesus brings comfort to the oppressed and final vindication to those who have suffered, while warning those who refuse repentance. His reign promises eventual healing, restoration, and the end of injustice. (Matthew 25:31–46; Revelation 20:11–15; Romans 8:18–25)

In short, “Judge” names Jesus as the just and tender Sovereign who will one day judge the living and the dead. This truth calls us to live with honest faith and humble obedience, gives hope and vindication to the oppressed, and assures us that wrongs will be set right and healing will come. (John 5:28–29; Acts 17:31)

Let’s pray, “Heavenly Father, thank You for our Lord Jesus, the righteous Judge. Jesus, we honour Your just rule. Search our hearts, bring repentance where we are blind, and shape us in holiness. Comfort the oppressed, vindicate the faithful, and hasten Your healing and final justice. Give us mercy-filled courage to live rightly until You return.” Amen!
