(Psalm 85:6) "Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?”

This series is about how GOD is believed to communicate with us all. This next part is through (17) REVIVAL (awakening). NB - Because free will allows us to choose destruction, GOD uses whatever means He wills to rescue us — and one of His life‑changing Gifts is Revival.

NB - Revivals are not just about huge supernatural breakthroughs; GOD can (will) use anything to save us from ourselves! For example, A churchgoer who’d stopped attending services was visited one cold evening by his Pastor. The Pastor didn't speak and just sat in silence by the blazing fire. After watching the coals for a while, and still without a word, he picked out a large log and set it aside; as its flame dwindled and died, the two men sat quietly, feeling the room grow colder. After a few minutes, the Pastor gently returned the now cold ember to the heart of the fire. It flared up at once, warm and glowing. Deeply moved, the man wiped away a tear and said, “Thank you for your fiery sermon — I’ll be back in church next Sunday.”

I’ve been searching for a simple definition of revival. This testimony by Charles Finney in God’s Generals expresses that truth plainly, and I will base my series on it.

The manager of a Cotton Mill—haunted by drunkenness, fights, and the hollow lives around him—asked Charles Finney to speak to his workers at lunchtime.
Amid the clatter and steam of the Cotton Mill, Finney climbed the gantry above the machines to pray. From that high perch, he caught the eye of a young girl working a machine and smiled. She returned his smile, then suddenly flushed and sank to her knees, overcome with conviction. One by one, the faces of the workers around her changed—workers began dropping their tools, tears began to fall, wails, cries, and confessions rose. Repentance spread like wildfire. The manager himself stepped out and, seeing the scene, ordered the machines stopped and Finney to speak.
When Finney spoke, there were no polite abstractions. He preached with the force of a man who felt eternity pressing in—plain, urgent, uncompromising. He named sin for what it was, demanded immediate repentance, and hammered Scripture into everyday conscience. His words cut through pretence; his calls to confess and believe were direct and unavoidable.
The effect was instantaneous and electric. Men and women, driven by conviction, came forward with raw testimony and public confession. Conversions and renewed vows erupted across benches and walkways as lives turned from old patterns to a new allegiance—Christ Jesus!
They did not leave the moment to burn out. Prayer meetings sprang up, discipleship groups formed, and local churches rallied to care for the newly awakened. What began with a single trembling girl became a sweeping tide of restoration—Evidence that GOD, through plain, passionate words followed by corporate repentance and faithful follow‑up, can bring spiritual and social renewal to the most neglected places.

Let’s pray, “Heavenly Father, I come before You asking, Will You not revive me again? Breathe new life into my ever hardening, judgemental heart. Stir repentance where there is coldness, rekindle zeal where there is apathy, and restore my joy in Your presence. Teach me to walk in holiness, unite me with Your Body in faithful love, and raise up a lasting harvest of praise and obedience for Your Glory.” Amen!
